In 1962, Howard Hamilton and his wife Janet opened a breakfast restaurant in Grosse Pointe Woods, which was inviting to the neighborhoods families and friends. This modest restaurant with a warm atmosphere and delicious food became an instant favorite for Metro-Detroiters. By popular demand in 1977, Howard’s son Frank opened an Original Pancake House of his own in Southfield, Michigan. Then in 1982, Frank along with his wife Anneke purchased the Grosse Pointe Woods restaurant from his parents. Seven years later Frank opened Detroit’s third Original Pancake House in Birmingham, Michigan. The Original Pancake House of Michigan has always been a family operated establishment. Today Frank and Anneke’s two children Jamie and Jennifer are actively involved in the day-to-day operations.
From its beginning The Original Pancake House has always stressed excellence. The ingredients, attitudes, service and appearance can never be mediocre. For over 45 years The Original Pancake House has been a destination for Metro-Detroiters and The Original Pancake House and its team members will continue to ensure this high level of quality for years to come.
